Biography

Simone Haack is a German contemporary painter born in Rotenburg an der Wümme in 1978. She grew up in northern Germany and studied at the University of the Arts Bremen under Katharina Grosse and Karin Kneffel. She also studied at the Unitec School of Design in Auckland, New Zealand, and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She lives and works in Berlin.

Her paintings combine realistic imagery with mysterious, dreamlike elements. Through figures and imagined settings, she explores human fragility, perception, and the relationship between physical and psychological experience. Her work is associated with New Magical Realism, using realistic techniques to create worlds that extend beyond everyday reality.

Haack received the Willi Oltmanns Prize for Painting in 2006. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions in Germany, France, and Denmark.
