Vivien Solari, Life Moves Fast, New York
1999/2008
Elie Semotan’s work moves fluidly between fashion, editorial and fine art, and she is celebrated for images that challenge the conventions of glamour while revealing psychological presence rather than surface likeness. A central strand of her practice is her long collaboration with Martin Kippenberger, which produced some of the most iconic artist portraits of the late twentieth century. She has also photographed figures such as Louise Bourgeois and Marina Abramović, and her work has been widely exhibited throughout Europe and the United States.

Reception
Semotan’s photographs blend spontaneity with careful staging. Whether in the studio or on location, she creates images that are intimate, immediate and subtly subversive. Her use of natural light, unguarded gestures and understated elegance redefines authenticity in photography. Her portraits carry emotional depth, ambiguity and introspection, which is why many have become touchstones in contemporary photographic history.
